About The Position

Produces dry pet food products using an industrial grinder/extruder machine. This role involves operating and maintaining the grinder/extruder, ensuring proper mixture of ingredients, and participating actively in team-based operational systems and continuous improvement initiatives. The position requires adherence to safety protocols and the use of personal protective equipment.

Requirements

  • Basic understanding of computer usage is required.
  • Must be able to work in temperature extremes (below 40 to over 100 degrees).
  • Must be able to work on feet entire shift.
  • Must be able to lift up to 55 pounds of material or product from floor to shoulder height repetitively.
  • Must be able to climb up and down stairs/ladders to heights of 150 feet.
  • Must be able to work inside or outside.
  • Must be able to perform bending and stooping in tight enclosed areas when required.
  • Must be able to see and use electronic screens.
  • Will use head covering, ear plugs (as needed), safety glasses, skid resistant steel toe shoes and any other protective equipment as needed or required.

Nice To Haves

  • Forklift license preferred, will need to obtain license once in position.
  • Heavy machinery experience preferred.
  • Preferred pet food production industry experience.
  • Military experience valued.

Responsibilities

  • Operate grinder/extruder ensuring proper operation of the machine.
  • Make adjustments as needed to the grinder/extruder.
  • Accurately record written data tied to individual batches as it enters extrusion.
  • Report data to quality assurance.
  • Mix proper ingredients at the correct temperature.
  • Supply and load any material needed for the proper mixture of pet food.
  • Change screens and rotate hammers through a touch screen computer.
  • Participate as a member of the Team, fostering strong cohesiveness and supporting team concepts, programs, and policies.
  • Coordinate work to ensure B.E.S.T practices with all team members.
  • Attend appropriate team meetings.
  • Accept responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues.
  • Actively look for ways to achieve synergy within the larger organization.
  • Understand the responsibility to maintain familiarity with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g., quality, security, office environment, company policies) and this position’s role in support of these systems.
  • Consider the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.
  • Perform other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
