About The Position

Veterinary Practice Partners (VPP) is seeking an experienced veterinarian interested in a practice ownership opportunity in the Greater Sacramento area. This role involves becoming both a Medical Director and an owner, leading a practice, building a team, and creating a lasting vision. The opportunity is in an existing veterinary hospital space, allowing the veterinarian to shape the medical approach, build the team, and establish the culture and long-term vision for the practice. VPP provides operational, financial, HR, recruiting, and marketing support, allowing the Medical Director to focus on clinical excellence, team building, and practice growth. VPP supports over 200 veterinary hospitals and partners with over 330 doctor co-owners.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree or equivalent
• Active California veterinary license or ability to obtain
• 3+ years clinical experience preferred
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• Interest in practice ownership and building a hospital for long-term growth

Responsibilities

• Establish and uphold medical standards and protocols
• Lead effective case flow and clinical decision-making
• Ensure high-quality patient care and clear client communication
• Oversee medical record accuracy and charge capture
• Identify and implement clinical service enhancements
• Help recruit, hire, and onboard veterinarians and support staff
• Build and develop a strong clinical team
• Mentor associate veterinarians and support continued clinical development
• Contribute to operational strategy and scheduling
• Foster a collaborative, team-first culture
• Help shape the hospital's identity and long-term vision
• Drive revenue growth while maintaining medical excellence
• Participate in annual planning and performance review
• Support marketing and community engagement initiatives
