About The Position

Sweeping Corporation of America (SCA) is hiring an Overnight Street Sweeper in Houston, Texas. SCA provides street sweeping, jet-vac, and environmental services in more than 20 states, supporting municipalities, counties, and government agencies. Its mission is to provide essential services that support cleaner, safer, and more sustainable communities. The Street Sweeper takes ownership of assigned routes, drives a street sweeper, and operates specialized equipment to keep streets clean and well-maintained. The role works the third shift, with minimal travel, and requires reliable attendance, safe equipment operation, accurate documentation, and professional communication with coworkers, supervisors, and clients. The position involves continuous outdoor work with regular exposure to weather, traffic, and the elements. The employee may also encounter loud noise, dust or debris, jarring conditions, and limited chemical exposure. Physical duties include frequent sitting and walking or standing; occasional bending, twisting, squatting, kneeling, pushing, and pulling; limited stair climbing and crawling; and lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds at varying heights, including overhead. Continuous reading, screen use, mental focus, and hand-eye coordination are required. The employee operates specialized equipment, such as a mechanical broom sweeper, and uses hand and foot controls. Appropriate personal protective equipment is required.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
At least one year of DOT driving experience.
CDL-B license and DOT Medical Card.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Must maintain an acceptable driving record and pass a motor vehicle record check, background check, and drug screening in accordance with company policy and applicable law.
Ability to follow safety procedures, conduct inspections, operate equipment responsibly, and comply with traffic, site, and regulatory requirements.
Ability to plan routes, complete work efficiently and accurately, adapt to changing conditions, and maintain dependable attendance.
Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and teammates, represent the company professionally, and promptly report equipment issues, incidents, or safety concerns.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds at varying heights, including overhead.
Ability to use hand and foot controls and perform tasks requiring fine motor skills.
Ability to use required personal protective equipment.

Responsibilities

Perform pre-trip and post-trip equipment inspections and confirm safety features are operational before starting a route.
Review assigned routes before departure and seek clarification when routes or expectations are unclear.
Complete assigned jobs within the allotted timeframe while maintaining expected quality and attention to detail.
Operate equipment safely and efficiently while following traffic laws, company safety procedures, and site-specific protocols; use additional caution in inclement weather or challenging conditions.
Handle materials safely and securely, using the correct procedures for material types and disposal sites.
Report equipment problems, malfunctions, near misses, crashes, or injuries within 30 minutes or as soon as safely possible.
Immediately escalate opportunities, work issues, and safety concerns to management.
Maintain a professional attitude and appearance while representing the company at job sites and in public areas.
Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and clients as needed.
Accurately complete required logs, manifests, and forms.
Respond appropriately to changes and challenges and identify and resolve issues in a timely manner.
Report to work consistently, on time, and as scheduled, and remain prepared to work throughout assigned shifts while adhering to scheduled start times, breaks, and end times.
