About The Position

Sweeping Corporation of America (SCA) is hiring a full-time Overnight Street Sweeper in Houston, Texas. The role supports SCA’s street-sweeping and environmental services by operating a street sweeper and other specialized equipment to clean and maintain assigned routes. The position is scheduled for the third shift, involves minimal travel (1–10%), and pays $16–$19 per hour. The Street Sweeper is responsible for completing assigned work safely, efficiently, and to expected quality standards. Duties include inspecting equipment, reviewing routes, complying with traffic laws and safety procedures, handling materials and disposal correctly, completing required documentation, reporting problems and incidents promptly, and communicating professionally with coworkers, supervisors, clients, and the public. Regular, dependable attendance is expected. The work is primarily outdoors, with exposure to weather, traffic, and other environmental conditions. The role involves operating a mechanical broom sweeper and using required protective equipment. SCA describes its safety culture as supported by a full-time safety team, training programs, and operating procedures.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
At least one year of DOT driving experience.
CDL-B license.
DOT Medical Card.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Must maintain an acceptable driving record and pass a motor vehicle record check, background check, and drug screening in accordance with company policy and applicable law.
Ability to follow safety procedures, conduct inspections, operate equipment responsibly, and comply with traffic, site, and regulatory requirements.
Ability to plan routes, complete work efficiently and accurately, adapt to changing conditions, and maintain dependable attendance.
Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and teammates, represent the company professionally, and promptly report equipment issues, incidents, and safety concerns.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds at varying heights, including overhead.
Ability to perform the physical and sensory demands described for the role, including frequent sitting and walking or standing, continuous reading and screen use, mental focus, and hand-eye coordination.
Ability to use required PPE and operate equipment using hand controls, foot controls, and fine motor skills.

Responsibilities

Perform pre-trip and post-trip equipment inspections and confirm safety features are operational before starting a route.
Review assigned routes before departure and ask questions when route details or expectations are unclear.
Complete assigned jobs within the allotted timeframe while maintaining quality and attention to detail.
Operate sweeping equipment safely and efficiently while following traffic laws, company safety procedures, and site-specific protocols.
Use extra caution during inclement weather and challenging site conditions.
Handle materials safely and securely, using the correct procedures for material types and disposal sites.
Report equipment issues, malfunctions, near misses, crashes, and injuries within 30 minutes or as soon as safely possible.
Immediately escalate work issues, opportunities, and safety concerns to management.
Maintain a professional attitude and appearance on job sites and in public areas.
Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and clients when needed.
Accurately complete required logs, manifests, and forms.
Respond appropriately to changes and challenges and identify and resolve issues in a timely manner.
Report to work on time and as scheduled, remain prepared throughout assigned shifts, and adhere to start times, breaks, and end times.
