About The Position

The Area Leader is responsible for overall team member engagement within their span of care. The leader drives recognition, feedback and coaching, performance management, training and development, and succession planning. The Area Leader directs Leads and Team Leaders and is ultimately accountable for area operations and financials, including shrink, productivity, safety, scheduling and staffing forecasts, and resolving team member and customer conflicts. The role identifies and implements process improvements and serves as a steward of Meijer culture. The position also oversees execution of corporate plans and area operations to manage services and products effectively, maximize sales and productivity, and own budget line items in the P&L. It drives safety, compliance, and store condition management, while ensuring Team Leaders and Leads guide team members, assign daily work, and address training needs. Other duties may be assigned or required.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
Minimum of 4 years of retail, grocery, or customer service experience.
Passion for providing industry-leading service.
Ability to communicate clearly and provide precise direction to team members.
Ability to analyze financial and statistical information and use it to make informed decisions.
Ability to lead an organization that practices working safely at all times.
Proactive and creative thinking applied to the business.
Thorough understanding of seasonal and diverse merchandising to meet customer and community needs and gain sales and market share.
Strong business acumen.

Responsibilities

Engage with team members to ensure they receive onboarding, training, development, coaching, and feedback.
Identify talent and conduct career discussions to support store staffing and a diversified talent pipeline for team member and leadership roles.
Participate in candid discussions with team members to uphold Meijer standards and support their growth within the organization.
Oversee area operations and financial results by executing corporate plans, managing services and products, maximizing sales and productivity, and owning budget line items in the P&L.
Drive safety, compliance, and store condition management, and follow store compliance procedures.
Ensure Team Leaders and Leads provide guidance, assign daily work, and identify training needs.
Identify and implement process improvements and steward Meijer culture.
