About The Position

The Area Leader is responsible for team member engagement and area operations, including recognition, feedback and coaching, performance management, training and development, and succession planning. The leader directs Leads and Team Leaders and is accountable for area operations and financial results, including shrink, productivity, safety, scheduling, staffing forecasts, and resolving team member and customer conflicts. The role identifies and implements process improvements and serves as a steward of Meijer culture. The position oversees execution of corporate plans to manage services and products effectively, maximize sales and productivity, and meet budget goals. It also promotes safety, compliance, and store condition management. The Area Leader ensures Team Leaders and Leads guide team members, assign daily work, and identify training needs.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
Minimum 4+ years of retail/grocery or customer service experience.
Passion for providing industry-leading service.
Ability to communicate clear and precise direction to team members.
Ability to analyze financial and statistical information and use it to make informed decisions.
Ability to lead an organization that practices working safely at all times.
Proactive and creative thinking applied to the business.
Thorough understanding of seasonal and diverse merchandising to meet customer and community needs and gain sales and market share.
Strong business acumen.

Responsibilities

Engage team members to ensure appropriate onboarding, training, development, coaching, and feedback.
Identify talent and hold career discussions to support store staffing and a diverse pipeline for team member and leadership roles.
Have candid discussions with team members to uphold Meijer standards and support career growth.
Oversee area operations and financial results, including execution of corporate plans, sales, productivity, and budget line items in the P&L.
Drive safety, compliance, and condition management throughout the store and follow store compliance procedures.
Ensure Team Leaders and Leads provide guidance, assign daily work, and address team member training needs.
Identify and implement process improvements.
Resolve team member and customer conflicts.
