About The Position

The Area Leader is responsible for team member engagement and development within their span of care, including recognition, feedback, coaching, performance management, training, and succession planning. The role directs Leads and Team Leaders and is accountable for area operations and financial results, including shrink, productivity, safety, scheduling and staffing forecasts, and resolving team member and customer conflicts. The Area Leader identifies and implements process improvements while serving as a steward of Meijer culture.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• At least 4 years of retail, grocery, or customer service experience.
• Passion for providing industry-leading service.
• Ability to communicate clear and precise direction to team members.
• Ability to analyze financial and statistical information and use it to make informed decisions.
• Ability to lead an organization that practices working safely at all times.
• Proactive and creative thinking applied to the business.
• Thorough understanding of seasonal and diverse merchandising to meet customer and community needs and gain sales and market share.
• Strong business acumen.
• Commitment to fostering an inclusive environment where team members and vendors feel valued and supported.

Responsibilities

• Ensure team members receive appropriate onboarding, training, development, coaching, and feedback.
• Identify talent and hold career discussions to support store staffing and a diversified talent pipeline for team member and leadership roles.
• Hold candid discussions with team members to uphold Meijer standards and support their growth within the organization.
• Oversee execution of corporate plans and manage services and products to maximize sales and productivity.
• Own area budget line items in the P&L and be accountable for area operations and financial results.
• Drive safety, compliance, and condition management throughout the store, and follow store compliance procedures.
• Ensure Team Leaders and Leads provide guidance, assign daily work, and address team member training needs.
• Identify and implement process improvements and serve as a steward of Meijer culture.
• Perform other duties as assigned or required.
