About The Position

The Area Leader is responsible for team member engagement within their span of care and for leading Leads and Team Leaders. The role is accountable for area operations and financial results, including shrink, productivity, safety, scheduling and staffing forecasts, and resolving team member and customer conflicts. The Area Leader drives recognition, feedback and coaching, performance management, training and development, and succession planning. They identify and implement process improvements and serve as a steward of Meijer culture. The role supports onboarding, training, development, and coaching for team members; identifies talent and supports career growth and staffing strategies; oversees execution of corporate plans and area budgets; and promotes safety, compliance, and store condition management. Team Leaders and Leads are expected to guide team members, assign daily work, and address training needs under the Area Leader’s direction. Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
At least 4 years of retail, grocery, or customer service experience.
Passion for providing industry-leading service.
Ability to communicate clear and precise direction to team members.
Ability to analyze financial and statistical information and use it to make informed decisions.
Ability to lead an organization that practices working safely at all times.
Proactive and creative thinking applied to the business.
Thorough understanding of seasonal and diverse merchandising to meet customer and community needs and gain sales and market share.
Strong business acumen.

Responsibilities

Engage with team members to support onboarding, training, development, coaching, and feedback.
Identify talent and hold career discussions to support store staffing and a diversified talent pipeline for team member and leadership roles.
Conduct candid discussions to uphold Meijer standards and support team members’ growth within the organization.
Oversee execution of corporate plans and management of services and products to maximize sales and productivity.
Own area budget line items in the P&L and be accountable for area operations and financial results.
Drive safety, compliance, and overall condition management throughout the store.
Ensure Team Leaders and Leads provide guidance, assign daily work, and address team member training needs.
Identify and implement process improvements.
Serve as a steward of Meijer culture.
Perform other duties as assigned or required.
