About The Position

Curtis Lumber’s Ballston Spa location is seeking an experienced, hard-working Overnight Guard to support company facilities and operations. The role includes inspecting property and buildings in an operation that runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The schedule is Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. The Overnight Guard supports safety and security through patrols, monitoring surveillance, recording unusual occurrences, assisting with emergencies, and coordinating with employees, vendors, customers, management, and emergency services. Additional duties include maintaining designated outdoor areas during snow or ice events, checking in vehicles, logging rail cars, and completing assigned projects.

Responsibilities

Identify safety issues and address them or contact the Building Maintenance/Loss Prevention Manager.
During snow or ice events, maintain areas around the Guard Shack, gates, and Corporate Building, and maintain a path to the generator.
Observe propane station operations to ensure safe dispensing.
Observe arriving and departing personnel for security and safety reasons.
Observe departing company trucks and vehicles for safety issues.
Periodically patrol buildings and grounds, including at night and, under special circumstances, during the day.
Record unusual occurrences, property damage, and malfunctioning equipment at night.
Sign out and sign in transfer trucks traveling to other branches and log rail cars in and out.
Monitor the video surveillance system and obtain still photos or video footage as needed.
Identify trespassers and address situations as needed; notify authorities of suspicious or criminal acts.
Address parking issues and check in or out vendor trucks and vehicles, providing direction as needed.
Handle onsite emergencies and provide traffic control when necessary.
Handle emergency phone calls from branches and notify the appropriate departments or management.
Notify EMS, police, or fire services in emergencies.
Take alarm calls from Mahoney and address them as needed.
Assist with incidents when needed.
Mentor fellow employees as needed to support their continued improvement.
Spot-check inventory items when needed.
Assist customers in the seasonal area when needed and when not alone.
Check customer propane tanks for expiration and condition when not alone.
Give directions to lost customers and vendors.
Complete assigned projects.
