About The Position

The Outside Plant Technician maintains Verizon’s outside plant facilities to help ensure they operate efficiently and are prepared for service. The role includes placing, rearranging, and removing outside plant facilities and associated hardware; connecting wires and cables; interpreting engineering work orders; performing construction tasks; and operating company vehicles to transport equipment. The work is onsite at a defined location or locations and is scheduled for 40 hours per week. Evening, weekend, holiday, and unscheduled shifts may be required based on business needs.

Requirements

• Valid state driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
• Class A CDL or the ability to obtain a Class A CDL.
• Knowledge of outside plant and construction.
• Ability to climb ladders and poles, work aloft, perceive differences in wire and cable colors, and move or lift items generally not exceeding 100 pounds.

Nice To Haves

• Related associate degree or two or more years of relevant work experience.
• Completion of the Verizon Technician Program or a similar program covering electrical or lineman training.

Responsibilities

• Place, rearrange, and remove outside plant, including aerial, underground, submarine, buried, block, and house cables, poles, and associated hardware and fixtures.
• Connect wires and cables to terminals and attach or detach hardware to wires, cables, buildings, or poles.
• Read and interpret engineering work orders.
• Perform construction work using designated equipment, including digging holes and placing poles.
• Operate company motor vehicles of varying gross weights to transport equipment.
• Climb ladders and poles and work aloft.
• Perceive differences in wire and cable colors and move or lift items generally not exceeding 100 pounds.
• Work evenings, weekends, holidays, and unscheduled shifts as determined by business needs.
