About The Position

The Outside Plant Technician maintains Verizon’s outside plant facilities to ensure they operate efficiently and are prepared for service. The role involves placing, rearranging, and removing outside plant facilities and equipment; connecting wires and cables; interpreting engineering work orders; and performing construction work using designated equipment. Technicians operate company motor vehicles and may climb ladders and poles and work aloft. The role may require evening, weekend, holiday, and unscheduled shifts based on business needs. This is an onsite, worksite-based position with 40 scheduled hours per week.

Requirements

• Valid state driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
• Class A CDL or the ability to obtain a Class A CDL.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and unscheduled shifts as determined by business needs.
• Ability to climb ladders and poles, work aloft, distinguish wire and cable colors, and move or lift items generally not exceeding 100 lbs.

Nice To Haves

• A related Associate Degree or two or more years of relevant work experience.
• Completion of the Verizon Technician Program or similar programs covering electrical or lineman training.

Responsibilities

• Place, rearrange, and remove outside plant, including aerial, underground, submarine, buried, block, and house cables, poles, and associated hardware and fixtures.
• Connect wires and cables to terminals and attach or detach hardware to wires, cables, buildings, or poles.
• Read and interpret engineering work orders.
• Perform construction work using designated equipment, including digging holes and placing poles.
• Operate company motor vehicles of varying gross weights to transport equipment.
• Climb ladders and poles and work aloft.
• Perceive differences in wire and cable colors and move or lift items generally not exceeding 100 lbs.
