About The Position

The Outside Plant Technician maintains Verizon’s outside plant facilities to ensure they operate efficiently and remain prepared. The role involves placing, rearranging, and removing outside plant facilities; connecting wires and cables; interpreting engineering work orders; performing construction work; and transporting equipment in company vehicles. The technician may climb ladders and poles, work aloft, distinguish wire and cable colors, and move or lift items generally weighing no more than 100 pounds. Work may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and unscheduled shifts based on business needs. This is an onsite, worksite-based role with 40 scheduled weekly hours.

Requirements

• Valid state driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
• Class A CDL or the ability to obtain a Class A CDL.

Nice To Haves

• A related Associate Degree or two or more years of relevant work experience.
• Completion of the Verizon Technician Program or similar programs covering electrical or lineman training.

Responsibilities

• Place, rearrange, and remove outside plant facilities, including aerial, underground, submarine, buried, block, and house cables, poles, and associated hardware and fixtures.
• Connect wires and cables to terminals and attach or detach hardware to wires, cables, buildings, or poles.
• Read and interpret engineering work orders.
• Perform construction work using designated equipment, including digging holes and placing poles.
• Operate company motor vehicles of varying gross weights to transport equipment.
• Climb ladders and poles and work aloft.
• Perceive differences in wire and cable colors.
• Move and lift items generally not exceeding 100 pounds.
• Work evenings, weekends, holidays, and unscheduled shifts as determined by business needs.
