About The Position

The Outside Plant Technician ensures Verizon’s outside plant facilities are maintained in excellent condition and operate efficiently and reliably. The role involves placing, rearranging, and removing outside plant facilities; connecting wires and cables; interpreting engineering work orders; performing construction tasks; and operating company vehicles. The work may require climbing ladders and poles, working aloft, distinguishing wire and cable colors, and moving or lifting items generally not exceeding 100 pounds. Evening, weekend, holiday, and unscheduled shifts may be required based on business needs. This is an onsite, worksite-based role at defined location(s), scheduled for 40 hours per week.

Requirements

• Valid state driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
• Class A CDL or the ability to obtain a Class A CDL.

Nice To Haves

• A related Associate Degree or two or more years of relevant work experience.
• Completion of the Verizon Technician Program or a similar program covering electrical or lineman training.

Responsibilities

• Place, rearrange, and remove outside plant facilities, including aerial, underground, submarine, buried, block, and house cables, poles, and associated hardware and fixtures.
• Connect wires and cables to terminals and attach or detach hardware to wires, cables, buildings, or poles.
• Read and interpret engineering work orders.
• Perform construction work using designated equipment, such as digging holes and placing poles.
• Operate company motor vehicles of varying gross weights to transport equipment.
• Climb ladders and poles and work aloft.
• Perceive differences in wire and cable colors.
• Move and lift items generally not exceeding 100 pounds.
• Work evenings, weekends, holidays, and unscheduled shifts as determined by business needs.
