About The Position

The Outside Plant Technician maintains Verizon’s outside plant facilities to help ensure they operate efficiently and are prepared for service. The work includes placing, rearranging, and removing outside plant facilities and associated equipment; making cable and hardware connections; interpreting engineering work orders; and performing construction tasks. The role also involves operating company vehicles and working outdoors at heights and in varied conditions. The position is onsite at defined work locations and has a scheduled 40-hour workweek. Evening, weekend, holiday, and unscheduled shifts may be required based on business needs.

Requirements

• Valid state driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
• Class A CDL or the ability to obtain a Class A CDL.
• Knowledge of outside plant and construction.
• Ability to climb ladders and poles, work aloft, distinguish wire and cable colors, and move or lift items generally not exceeding 100 pounds.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and unscheduled shifts as business needs require.

Nice To Haves

• Related associate degree or at least 2 years of relevant work experience.
• Completion of the Verizon Technician Program or a similar program covering electrical or lineman training.

Responsibilities

• Place, rearrange, and remove outside plant facilities, including aerial, underground, submarine, buried, block, and house cables, poles, and associated hardware and fixtures.
• Connect wires and cables to terminals and attach or detach hardware to wires, cables, buildings, or poles.
• Read and interpret engineering work orders.
• Perform construction work using designated equipment, including digging holes and placing poles.
• Operate company motor vehicles of varying gross weights to transport equipment.
• Climb ladders and poles and work aloft.
• Perceive differences in wire and cable colors and move or lift items generally not exceeding 100 pounds.
• Work evenings, weekends, holidays, and unscheduled shifts as business needs require.
