About The Position

The Outside Plant Technician maintains Verizon’s outside plant facilities to ensure they operate efficiently and are prepared for service. The role involves placing, rearranging, and removing outside plant facilities; connecting cables and hardware; interpreting engineering work orders; performing construction tasks; and operating company vehicles. The position requires physical work including climbing and lifting, and may involve evenings, weekends, holidays, and unscheduled shifts based on business needs. This is an onsite, worksite-based role with 40 scheduled weekly hours.

Requirements

• Valid state driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
• Class A CDL or the ability to obtain a Class A CDL.

Nice To Haves

• A related associate degree or two or more years of relevant work experience.
• Knowledge of outside plant and construction.
• Ability to stay busy and organized, work collaboratively as part of a team, and take pride in quality work.

Responsibilities

• Place, rearrange, and remove outside plant facilities, including aerial, underground, submarine, buried, block, and house cables, poles, and associated hardware and fixtures.
• Connect wires and cables to terminals and attach or detach hardware to wires, cables, buildings, or poles.
• Read and interpret engineering work orders.
• Perform construction work using designated equipment, including digging holes and placing poles.
• Operate company motor vehicles of varying gross weights to transport equipment.
• Climb ladders and poles and work aloft.
• Perceive differences in wire and cable colors.
• Move and lift items generally not exceeding 100 pounds.
• Work evenings, weekends, holidays, and unscheduled shifts as required by business needs.
