About The Position

The Outside Plant Technician helps maintain Verizon’s outside plant facilities to ensure they operate efficiently and are prepared for service needs. The role involves placing, rearranging, and removing outside plant infrastructure; connecting wires and cables; interpreting engineering work orders; and performing construction tasks using designated equipment. The technician also operates company vehicles and works at heights and in varied conditions. Work may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and unscheduled shifts based on business needs. This is an onsite, worksite-based role with 40 scheduled hours per week.

Requirements

• Valid state driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
• Class A CDL or the ability to obtain a Class A CDL.
• Ability to perceive differences in wire and cable colors.
• Ability to move and lift items generally not exceeding 100 lbs.

Nice To Haves

• A related Associate Degree or at least 2 years of relevant work experience.
• Completion of the Verizon Technician Program or similar programs covering electrical or lineman training.

Responsibilities

• Place, rearrange, and remove outside plant facilities, including aerial, underground, submarine, buried, block, and house cables, poles, and associated hardware and fixtures.
• Connect wires and cables to terminals and attach or detach hardware to wires, cables, buildings, or poles.
• Read and interpret engineering work orders.
• Perform construction work using designated equipment, such as digging holes and placing poles.
• Operate company motor vehicles of varying gross weights to transport equipment.
• Climb ladders and poles and work aloft.
• Work evenings, weekends, holidays, and unscheduled shifts as determined by business needs.
