About The Position

The Outside Plant Technician maintains Verizon’s outside plant facilities to help ensure they operate efficiently and are prepared to meet business needs. The role involves placing, rearranging, and removing outside plant infrastructure; connecting cables and hardware; interpreting engineering work orders; and performing construction tasks. The technician may operate company vehicles, climb ladders and poles, and work aloft. Work may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and unscheduled shifts as business needs require. This is an onsite role at a defined work location, scheduled for 40 hours per week.

Requirements

• Valid state driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
• Class A CDL or the ability to obtain a Class A CDL.
• Ability to perceive differences in wire and cable colors.
• Ability to move and lift items generally not exceeding 100 lbs.

Nice To Haves

• A related associate degree or two or more years of relevant work experience.
• Completion of the Verizon Technician Program or similar programs covering electrical or lineman training.

Responsibilities

• Place, rearrange, and remove outside plant, including aerial, underground, submarine, buried, block, and house cables, poles, and associated hardware and fixtures.
• Connect wires and cables to terminals and attach or detach hardware to wires, cables, buildings, or poles.
• Read and interpret engineering work orders.
• Perform construction work using designated equipment, including digging holes and placing poles.
• Operate company motor vehicles of varying gross weights to transport equipment.
• Climb ladders and poles and work aloft.
• Work evenings, weekends, holidays, and unscheduled shifts as business needs require.
