About The Position

The Outdoor Program Manager (OPM) will implement Outdoor Pillar programming across GSNYPENN’s 4 Girl Scout Camps and in assigned region. The OPM will work collaboratively with the Property and Program Team to meet the Girl Scout Leadership Experience through outdoor adventure. This position will also focus on increased property usage by individuals, troops and service units at all camps. The incumbent will serve as the Summer Camp Director for resident camp held at assigned property. Although this position focuses primarily on outdoor/environmental education, responsibilities may include support of girl programming in other pathways. This position will work collaboratively with Member Engagement Managers to recruit and retain new Girl Scout members through a variety of methods and is expected to support the Product Sales team in order to reach council goals. Residence at Camp Amahami is required June through August 2027; nights and weekends are regularly required throughout the rest of the year.

Requirements

Must be 25+ years old, per NYS DOH Camp Director regulations
High school diploma required
2+ years relevant experience
demonstrated experience and success in leading programs for youth is required
Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license
Equivalent combinations of education and work experience will be considered.

CPR/1st Aid, Lifeguarding, WSI, Archery, Small Craft Safety, Wilderness First Aid preferred, or willingness to obtain

Responsibilities

Responsible for coordinating and/or facilitating programs that support and retain membership once recruited, with an emphasis on camp and outdoor/environmental education activities, including but not limited to badge programs, school break programs/camps, and travel programs.
Manage all health form and parent communication within the CampDoc and or GS Events systems, ensuring that the system supports the needs of assigned camp.
Work in conjunction with the Marketing Team to create and maintain a robust social media presence for assigned camp; create and implement timely social media posts to enhance participation in camp and outdoor programs.
Ensure that all camp programming incorporates activities or processes that contribute to the intended outcomes for youth, are grade-level appropriate and meet the needs and interests of current and prospective members.
Actively recruits summer camp participants and staff through a variety of platforms and in person recruitment events.
Promote troop/group and service unit camping opportunities on assigned property.
Ensure that volunteers have the knowledge and skill to deliver programs in camp and other outdoor settings through comprehensive training.
Ensure that program activities are youth-driven.
Be familiar with current youth development research; develop or enhance systems that provide for youth input in the design and delivery of program pathways.
Is familiar with NYS Health Department Codes, including Summer Camp and Temporary Residence subparts.
Maintains a good working relationship with the health department sanitation in assigned county.
Coordinates with County Health Department and Camp Ranger to conduct annual Temporary Residence and Summer Camp permitting visits and ensures that the camp safety plan is up-to-date and accurate; keep copy of annual safety plans onsite.
In conjunction with the Ranger, may perform seasonal grounds maintenance which includes trail clearing and building maintenance.
Assists in waterfront and archery/shooting range physical facility maintenance, including set-up/ tear-down for seasonal programming.
Maintains the interior operations of camp buildings as they apply to camps and programming.
Serve as Residential Summer Camp Director on assigned property.
As Director, you will: design, implement, and evaluate all camp programming and oversee the daily operation of all aspects of summer camp; oversee counselors, admin staff, food service manager, and health supervisor monitor schedules, expenses, budgets, payroll, ACA and NYS DoH permitting; follow risk management and crisis procedures; maintain enthusiastic and vibrant relationships with campers and parents; responsible for the timely and accurate processing of seasonal staff payroll, including the submission of hours/days worked as required by the council’s payroll system; observe camper and staff behavior, assess appropriateness, enforce camp rules and regulations, apply appropriate conflict resolution and behavior management techniques work with the DOE to plan camp brochure and marketing strategy and recruit campers from throughout the council
Prepare and adhere to budgets for assigned program activities.
Adhere to post-event report schedule as assigned.
Actively participate in supporting the product sales and membership departments to reach council goals.
Ensure that all program initiatives within the outdoor pillar support the council membership plan and GSUSA program model.
Ensure that programs incorporate activities or processes that contribute to the intended outcomes for girls.
Ensure a variety of program resources, experiences, and opportunities that support progression, leadership, and community partnership and service.
Interpret GSUSA and council policies, standards, and program resources in order to ensure quality program for girls and adults.
