About The Position

Specialist, GSLE Program – Outdoor is responsible for the development, coordination, and delivery of high-quality outdoor and experiential programming aligned with the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE). This role focuses on providing safe, engaging, and progressive outdoor opportunities for girls, with a strong emphasis on environmental education, outdoor skills, and animal-based learning experiences. This position plays a key role in coordinating partnerships, particularly those related to animals, wildlife, agriculture, and outdoor education—to expand program offerings and enhance girl engagement. The Specialist works collaboratively across departments, with volunteers, and with community partners to deliver impactful, mission-driven programming.

Requirements

Associate’s degree or equivalent experience in Outdoor Education, Recreation, Youth Development, Animal Science, or a related field.
1–3 years of experience in program delivery, outdoor education, youth programming, or partnership coordination.
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple programs and partnerships simultaneously.
Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Willingness to work on a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Travel throughout the council jurisdiction up to 20% of the time.
Capability to provide your own transportation and maintain a valid operator's license.
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Operate office equipment manually.
Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds at times.

Nice To Haves

Experience working with animals, farms, outdoor education centers, or similar environments is preferred.

Responsibilities

Works closely with the Senior Director of Girl Experience (SDGX) to develop and implement programming team goals, strategies, and accountability measures that support the council’s strategic objectives.
Collaborate with program staff to deliver high-quality programs aligned with the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE), including leading the planning and execution of council Signature Events and Encampments (Outdoor Related), planning, coordinating, and delivering outdoor programs, events, and activities aligned with GSLE outcomes and badge requirements, supporting the execution of council-wide outdoor events, encampments, day camps, and select summer camp programming, facilitating hands-on outdoor experiences that build confidence, leadership, environmental stewardship, and life skills, assisting in implementing progressive outdoor program pathways for girls across all grade levels, assisting with all marketing, programmatic, and policy/ procedure research and documentation, monitoring and responding to emails in the program inbox, and assisting with council fund development programs and initiatives.
Securing required documentation and ensuring programs and partners adhere to GSUSA Safety Activity Checkpoints, Volunteer Essentials, the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE), and the council’s strategic vision.
Identify, cultivate, and manage partnerships with organizations related to animals (e.g., farms, equestrian centers, wildlife organizations, veterinarians, zoos, nature centers). Coordinating event scheduling, registration, communication, and evaluation.
Serve as the primary liaison for animal and outdoor partners, ensuring alignment with safety, program quality, and GSLE standards.
Manage scheduling, communication, contracts (as applicable), and evaluation of partner-led programs.
Ensuring all partners comply with council policies, safety standards, and program guidelines.
Works collaboratively with all council departments to ensure programs and initiatives are effectively promoted to girl and adult membership, including assisting with the development of council program guides and related materials.
Builds and maintains strong relationships with volunteers across the council to better understand membership needs, strengthen support for council initiatives, and develop program offerings that reflect regional and geographic realities.
Develops collaborative relationships across departments to support council-wide, regional, and functional initiatives, particularly those focused on membership growth and retention.
Maintains proficiency in council business systems and works with the department team to track data, maintain records, and support the development of documentation and program processes.
Represents the organization professionally within the community and at council events.
Provide safety instruction and supervision of activities within assigned program areas.
Assist in the facilitation and delivery of program activities within areas of expertise and certification.
Assist in the upkeep of program facilities as needed to support program delivery.
Conduct regular equipment safety checks and maintain program equipment, including completing pre- and post-session inventory and supply checks.
Provide training to staff and volunteers appropriate to experience and certification level.
Stay current on required safety procedures and certifications, notifying the supervisor when renewals are needed.
Follow all facility rules and policies and ensure participants adhere to them.
Maintain regular communication with the Senior Director of Girl Experience (SDGX).
Attend department meetings as scheduled.
Maintain a positive attitude and professionalism when working with participants, parents, volunteers, and staff.
Actively participate in and champion environments that foster diversity, equity, inclusion, and access through words, actions, and leadership behaviors.
Integrate equitable practices into recruitment strategies and community engagement initiatives.
