About The Position

This is not a typical BDR role. Flare is building its outbound BDR function from the ground up, and you would be one of the first. This means real influence, where the outreach frameworks you develop, the ICP signals you validate, and the messaging that lands become the foundation for the team. This role is 100% outbound, focusing on prospecting cold into security teams at companies that may not be familiar with Flare yet. The role emphasizes developing discipline, creativity, and resilience to create pipeline from scratch, which are skills that prime individuals for future sales roles. Flare is a Threat Exposure Management platform founded in 2017, providing visibility across the dark and clear web to detect threats before attackers can use them. They serve a range of organizations from Fortune 50 enterprises to federal law enforcement and high-growth startups, holding a 4.8-star rating on Gartner Peer Insights. Requirements

  • Prior SDR/BDR experience is a plus, but not required — we're open to recent grads who are hungry, coachable, and gritty.
  • Must be able to thrive independently in a remote environment and don't need a lot of hand-holding to stay motivated and organized.
  • A hunter mentality. You're energized by building pipeline from scratch, not working a warm queue.
  • Rejection doesn't derail you — it informs your next attempt.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and early-stage environments. You see a lack of process as an opportunity to build something, not a reason to wait.
  • A bias toward action and experimentation — you test messaging, learn from results, and adapt quickly rather than waiting for the perfect playbook.
  • Coachability and genuine curiosity. You want to get better, you ask good questions, and you take feedback seriously.
  • Solid organizational habits — managing high volumes of outreach, follow-ups, and CRM hygiene without letting things fall through the cracks.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. You can write a compelling outreach email, initiate a call to earn 60 seconds, and hold a conversation that sparks genuine interest.
  • Bonus: familiarity with cybersecurity, threat intelligence, or selling to technical buyers. You don't need to be a security expert — but intellectual curiosity about the space will take you far here.

Responsibilities

  • Own outbound pipeline generation end-to-end — cold calls, personalized email sequences, LinkedIn outreach, and creative multi-touch campaigns targeting security leaders who've never heard of us.
  • Research and prioritize target accounts, identifying the right stakeholders (CISOs, threat intelligence leads, security operations managers) and tailoring outreach to their specific threat landscape.
  • Execute high-quality activity — execute daily touchpoints — without sacrificing the personalization that makes cold outreach actually work.
  • Qualify and book discovery meetings for Account Executives by mapping Flare's value to each prospect's real pain.
  • Help build the outbound playbook. As one of our first BDRs, you'll contribute directly to how we define our ICP, develop sequences, and refine messaging — your work shapes the team we're building.
  • Leverage tools intelligently — Hubspot, Outreach (or equivalent), LinkedIn Sales Navigator, and more — to stay organized and work smart at scale.
  • Partner closely with Account Executives and Marketing to align on target segments, share pipeline insights, and keep the GTM feedback loop tight.
  • Track your metrics, iterate fast, and own your results. You'll have clear quota targets and the autonomy and encouragement to experiment with what works.
