About The Position

New England Donor Services (NEDS) is hiring an experienced ICU RN, critical care RN, trauma nurse, or critical care respiratory therapist as an Organ Donation Coordinator. The coordinator responds on-site to organ donor referrals, providing clinical expertise in donor evaluation and management, organ allocation, and organ recovery. The role combines clinical and interpersonal skills to educate hospital staff about donation, work with donor families to obtain consent, and collaborate with surgical teams and critical care staff to optimize organs for transplantation. Success requires strong clinical assessment, flexibility, confidence, and the ability to remain calm and effective in highly charged, clinically complex situations. The position begins with company orientation in Waltham, Massachusetts, followed by a specialized Donation Academy. The Academy includes three days per week of classroom training in Waltham during the first three weeks, generally Tuesday through Thursday on a day shift, as well as additional training, meetings, and a mix of 16-hour day and 12-hour night on-call shifts during orientation. Independent work consists of 12-hour night shifts from 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., three shifts per week on a four-week schedule, up to 40 hours per week, plus training and meetings. Significant travel throughout New England using a personal vehicle is required; mileage and other reimbursements are available. The next cohort is scheduled to start January 4, 2027.
