New England Donor Services (NEDS) is seeking an experienced ICU registered nurse, critical care or trauma nurse, or critical care respiratory therapist to serve as an Organ Donation Coordinator. The coordinator responds on-site to organ donor referrals and provides clinical expertise in donor evaluation and management, organ allocation, and organ recovery. The role combines clinical and interpersonal skills to educate hospital staff about donation, work with donor families to obtain consent, and collaborate with surgical teams and critical care staff to optimize organs for transplantation. Success requires strong clinical assessment and critical-thinking skills, flexibility, composure, compassion, and effectiveness in highly charged and clinically complex situations. The position is scheduled for 40 hours per week on days, with 16-hour on-call day shifts. Independent shifts run from 8:00 a.m. to midnight, generally three shifts per week on a four-week schedule, averaging 14 shifts per four weeks, in addition to training and meetings. The orientation includes a general company-wide onsite week in Waltham, followed by a specialized Donation Academy: three days per week in the Waltham office for the first three weeks, generally Tuesday through Thursday on a day shift, plus additional training throughout orientation. After classroom training, new hires participate in 16-hour on-call day shifts. The role requires significant travel in a personal vehicle to hospitals throughout New England and to NEDS headquarters in Waltham, Massachusetts. Mileage and other reimbursements are available. The next Donation Academy cohort is scheduled to start January 4, 2027. NEDS coordinates organ and tissue donation across Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, eastern Vermont, and Bermuda.
