New England Donor Services (NEDS) is seeking an experienced ICU RN, critical care RN, trauma nurse, or critical care respiratory therapist to coordinate organ donation. The role responds on-site to donor referrals and provides clinical expertise in donor evaluation, donor management, organ allocation, and organ recovery. Coordinators educate hospital staff about the donation process, work with donor families to obtain consent, and collaborate with surgical teams and critical care staff to optimize organs for transplantation. Success requires strong clinical assessment and interpersonal skills, flexibility, and the ability to remain calm and effective in emotionally charged, clinically complex situations. The next Donation Academy cohort is scheduled to start January 4, 2027. After a week-long, on-site company orientation in Waltham, MA, new hires attend a specialized training program. The Donation Academy is generally three days per week for the first three weeks in Waltham, typically Tuesday through Thursday on day shift, with additional office training during the orientation program. After classroom training, new hires participate in 16-hour day on-call shifts. The independent schedule consists of 16-hour shifts from 8:00 a.m. to midnight, averaging three shifts per week on a four-week schedule, plus trainings and meetings. Significant travel in a personal vehicle throughout New England is expected; mileage and other reimbursements are available. The position also requires travel to NEDS headquarters and hospitals throughout the region. NEDS coordinates organ and tissue donation across Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, eastern Vermont, and Bermuda. It works with more than 200 hospitals and serves nearly 15 million people in its region.
