New England Donor Services is seeking an experienced ICU RN, critical care RN, trauma nurse, or critical care respiratory therapist to work as an Organ Donation Coordinator. The coordinator responds on-site to organ donor referrals and provides clinical expertise in donor evaluation, donor management, organ allocation, and organ recovery. The role combines clinical and interpersonal skills to educate hospital staff about donation, work with donor families to obtain consent, and collaborate with surgical teams and critical care staff to optimize organs for transplantation. Success requires strong clinical assessment, flexibility, and the ability to remain calm and effective in highly charged, clinically complex situations. New hires begin with a week-long company orientation onsite in Waltham, Massachusetts, followed by specialized organ donation training. The Donation Academy includes three days per week in the Waltham office for the first three weeks, generally Tuesday through Thursday on a day shift, with additional office training during orientation. After classroom training, new hires take 16-hour on-call day shifts. The independent schedule consists of 16-hour on-call shifts from 8:00 a.m. to midnight, averaging three shifts per week on a four-week schedule, plus training and meetings. The position requires significant travel throughout New England in a personal vehicle, with mileage and other reimbursements available. The next cohort is scheduled to start January 4, 2027. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license, insurance, reliable transportation, and meet the organization’s eligible-driver requirements. The position requires travel to the Waltham headquarters and hospitals throughout New England. Employees working in clinical or healthcare environments outside NEDS facilities must receive an annual influenza vaccination.
