Optometric Technician - We will train!
About The Position
Midwest Eye Consultants is hiring an Optometric Technician for its Shelbyville, Indiana clinic. The role supports patient care by gathering patient information, conducting preliminary eye tests, preparing patients for examinations, assisting doctors during procedures, and helping ensure visits run smoothly. The company provides hands-on training, experienced trainers, and a mentor; prior medical experience is not required. The wage is $16.00–$18.00, depending on knowledge, skills, and experience. The position also offers opportunities for growth and wage increases through a company-paid certification program.
Requirements
- Friendly and motivated, with an interest in working with people and as part of a team.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform tasks involving stooping and grasping.
- Ability to talk and hear.
- Ability to regularly lift up to 15 pounds from floor to waist, 5 pounds from waist to shoulder, and 5 pounds from shoulder to overhead.
- Visual acuity sufficient to ensure accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness in assigned work.
Nice To Haves
- Medical-field experience is not required; hands-on training, experienced trainers, and a mentor are provided.
Responsibilities
- Collect patient information and histories.
- Explain preliminary testing procedures and prepare patients for eye examinations.
- Perform preliminary and doctor-requested tests on patients.
- Assist optometrists and ophthalmologists during patient procedures.
- Coordinate patient scheduling and help maintain smooth patient flow, communicating delays when needed.
- Prepare exam rooms by cleaning instruments and maintaining inventory of medications and supplies.
- Help maintain a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming environment for patients and staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the office manager, team lead, or doctors.
