About The Position

The Optometric Technician fulfills an important role by providing data that helps doctors deliver appropriate care and treatment to each patient. The position includes administrative and clinical functions such as obtaining patient histories, performing preliminary and ancillary testing, scheduling patients, preparing examination rooms, and assisting doctors with examination needs. The technician helps ensure the practice’s quality standards and supports a positive patient experience through effective communication.

Requirements

• Ability to stand for sustained periods and perform the stated physical activities, including stooping, grasping, lifting, talking, and hearing.
• Ability to perform light work, including regularly lifting up to 15 pounds from floor to waist, 5 pounds from waist to shoulder, and 5 pounds from shoulder overhead.
• Visual acuity sufficient to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of assigned work.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for eye examinations by communicating the features and benefits of preliminary testing procedures.
• Perform preliminary tests and any additional tests requested by the doctor.
• Assist optometrists and ophthalmologists with patient procedures.
• Coordinate patient scheduling and monitor patient flow throughout the office, communicating delays appropriately.
• Prepare examination rooms by cleaning instruments and maintaining inventories of medications and supplies.
• Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and inviting environment for patients and staff.
• Perform other duties and assume responsibilities as determined by the office manager or team lead and doctors.
