Optician 1 (Palm Eyecare)
About The Position
The primary function of this role is to assist patients with finding frames, adjustments, troubleshooting, and dispensing eyewear while providing the highest levels of quality and care. This role is responsible for attracting and retaining customers by delivering exceptional customer service, fostering customer retention, and promoting outstanding patient satisfaction. The Optician will greet and assist customers in the selection of frames, and assist patients with adjustments, troubleshooting, and dispensing eyewear. They will ensure correct pricing and realistic delivery time quotes to patients, and contact patients to dispense glasses. The role requires enthusiastic and concise communication to meet and exceed patient expectations, as well as foster positive relationships with team members. Daily tasks include cleaning and merchandising displays, assisting with insurance billing and processing orders, and documenting all patient communication in the practice software system. The Optician will also work on special projects, cross-train in different departments, and perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
Requirements
- One to two years of experience in related field
- Working knowledge of MS Office package
- Demonstrated ability to successfully perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Effective verbal communication skills to prioritize multiple tasks and to be available for incoming calls and inquiries
- Effective written communication skills to clearly document customer situations, as well as prepare letters to confirm agreements made
- Excellent interpersonal and rapport-building skills
- Ability to ask appropriate and relevant questions to identify customer needs
- Proven problem-solving, negotiating, and decision-making skills
- Ability to use appropriate discretion and judgment in applying customer/call handling guidelines
- Ability to listen, process transactions, and interact with customers simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
- For roles that are remote (i.e., Work From Home (WFH)) or hybrid (i.e., partial onsite at a VSP location and WFH), must demonstrate a high level of engagement in virtual environments, including maintaining camera presence during meetings to support effective communication and team alignment
Responsibilities

- Clean and merchandise displays daily; always display effective merchandise
- Assist with insurance billing and processing orders
- Document all patient communication in the patient record within the practice software system
- Work on special projects, cross-train in different departments, and perform other related duties as assigned or requested
