About The Position

An Optical Technician achieves a world-class Total Patient Experience that maximizes retail sales while supporting patients’ medical needs. The role dispenses and fits glasses and contact lenses based on prescriptions written by Optometrists and Ophthalmologists, connecting patients’ needs with available goods and services.

Requirements

At least one year in a position involving customer or patient interaction, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
High school diploma or GED.
Favorable background check as required by state.
Proof of identity and authorization to work in the United States.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Strong fine motor skills and full use of hands.
Visual and auditory acuity, including color, depth, and peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 25 lbs.

Nice To Haves

Previous medical office experience preferred; previous ophthalmic experience strongly preferred.
ABO and NCLE certifications preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

Build relationships with patients and provide medical support while delivering the Total Patient Experience.
Determine patients’ wants and needs, and sell products and services to exceed their expectations.
Help patients select frames based on style, color, facial and eye measurements, and optical prescriptions.
Operate auto-lensometers and manual lensometers.
Educate patients about and recommend lenses, lens coatings, and frames suited to their needs.
Accurately collect optical measurements, including bridge, eye size, temple length, segment heights, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and pantoscopic tilt.
Dispense patient orders and repair and adjust frames.
Dispense glasses and contact lens orders using the current process.
