About The Position

An Optical Technician achieves a world-class Total Patient Experience by maximizing retail sales while supporting patients’ medical needs. The role involves dispensing and fitting glasses and contact lenses based on prescriptions from Optometrists and Ophthalmologists, and connecting patients’ needs with the goods and services offered. The technician builds relationships with patients, provides medical support, and helps patients select and receive eyewear suited to their needs.

Requirements

• At least 1 year in a position interacting with customers or patients, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Favorable background check result as required by state.
• Proof of identity and authorization to work in the United States.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Ability to perform the stated physical activities, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling items up to 25 lbs; strong fine motor skills and full use of hands; and visual and auditory acuity.

Nice To Haves

• Previous medical office experience preferred; previous ophthalmic experience strongly preferred.
• ABO and NCLE certifications preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Deliver the Total Patient Experience and build relationships with patients while providing medical support.
• Determine patient wants and needs and sell products and services to exceed their expectations.
• Help patients select frames based on style, color, facial and eye measurements, and optical prescriptions.
• Operate auto-lensometers and manual lensometers.
• Educate patients about and recommend lenses, lens coatings, and frames suited to their needs.
• Accurately collect optical measurements, including bridge, eye size, temple length, segment heights, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and pantoscopic tilt.
• Dispense patient orders and repair and adjust patient frames.
• Dispense glasses and contact lens orders using the current process.
