About The Position

The Optical Technician achieves a world-class Total Patient Experience, supports patients’ medical needs, and maximizes retail sales. The role dispenses and fits glasses and contact lenses based on prescriptions written by optometrists and ophthalmologists, connecting patients’ needs with available products and services. The technician helps patients select and fit eyewear, takes optical measurements, educates patients about lenses and frames, and dispenses and maintains orders.

Requirements

At least one year of experience in a position interacting with customers or patients, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
High school diploma or GED.
Favorable background-check result as required by state.
Proof of identity and authorization to work in the United States.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Strong fine motor skills and full use of hands.
Visual and auditory acuity, including color, depth, and peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

Previous medical office experience.
Previous ophthalmic experience.
ABO certification.
NCLE certification.

Responsibilities

Deliver the Total Patient Experience and build relationships with patients while providing medical support.
Determine patients’ wants and needs and recommend products and services to exceed their expectations.
Help patients select frames based on style, color, facial and eye measurements, and optical prescriptions.
Operate auto-lensometers and manual lensometers.
Educate patients and recommend lenses, lens coatings, and frames suited to their needs.
Accurately collect optical measurements, including bridge, eye size, temple length, segment height, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and pantoscopic tilt.
Dispense patient orders and repair and adjust frames.
Dispense glasses and contact lens orders using current processes.
