About The Position

An Optical Technician works to provide a world-class Total Patient Experience, maximize retail sales, and support patients’ medical needs. The role involves dispensing and fitting glasses and contact lenses based on prescriptions from optometrists and ophthalmologists, and connecting patients’ needs with relevant goods and services. The position also includes helping patients select frames and lenses, taking optical measurements, dispensing orders, and repairing or adjusting frames.

Requirements

• At least one year of experience in a role interacting with customers or patients, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Favorable background check as required by the state.
• Proof of identity and authorization to work in the United States.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling items up to 25 pounds; strong fine motor skills and full use of hands; and visual and auditory acuity.

Nice To Haves

• Previous medical office experience.
• Previous ophthalmic experience.
• ABO certification.
• NCLE certification.

Responsibilities

• Deliver the Total Patient Experience and build relationships with patients while providing medical support.
• Determine patients’ wants and needs and recommend and sell products and services that exceed their expectations.
• Help patients select frames based on style, color, facial and eye measurements, and optical prescriptions.
• Operate auto-lensometers and manual lensometers.
• Educate patients about and recommend lenses, lens coatings, and frames suited to their needs.
• Accurately collect optical measurements, including bridge, eye size, temple length, segment heights, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and pantoscopic tilt.
• Dispense patient orders and repair or adjust frames.
• Dispense glasses and contact lens orders according to the current process.
