About The Position

Boscov’s is seeking an Optical Associate to join its Optical team. The role dispenses spectacles and contact lenses to adults and children, and advises and assists customers with lens and spectacle-frame options. The Optical Associate provides customer service, manages eyewear orders and sales, performs fittings and repairs, and supports the Optical Manager and daily department operations. The position is part-time and active, involving movement throughout the department during the shift.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of optical experience.
• At least 1 year of experience working in a retail store.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Ability to prioritize.
• Ability to work as a team member.
• Strong sense of fashion and trends.
• Knowledge of the proper use of lensometer, autorefractor, and NCT equipment.

Nice To Haves

• Prior sales experience.

Responsibilities

• Verify prescription orders by comparing system entries with the prescribing doctor’s original prescription and maintain organized order files according to store procedures.
• Assist customers in person and by phone, explain products and services, and provide a welcoming, professional experience.
• Interpret prescriptions, perform optical measurements, verify prescriptions with a lensometer, recommend frame and lens options, and select frames suited to prescription requirements.
• Manage order fulfillment by updating order status, notifying customers when orders are ready, dispensing complete eyewear, and processing sales and payments accurately.
• Fit, adjust, and repair eyewear and troubleshoot issues to support proper fit, comfort, and visual performance.
• Operate and maintain the lensometer, autorefractor, and non-contact tonometer (NCT) according to company procedures.
• Follow company policies, HIPAA requirements, and confidentiality standards.
• Assist the Optical Manager with opening and closing procedures, cash reconciliation, and accurate point-of-sale transactions.
• Build positive working relationships with store leadership and associates to support a collaborative, customer-focused environment.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and professional optical department.
