The Ophthalmic Scribe assists the physician with documenting the patient’s electronic medical record. The scribe accompanies the physician into the exam room and transcribes the patient’s history and the physician’s examination. Under the physician’s direction, the scribe also documents impressions and plans, test results, prescriptions, orders, procedures, and consultations or discussions with family members. The role does not usually involve directly assisting with patient care, though the physician may direct the scribe to do so. The scribe may also answer triage calls and enter patient data. As part of the hiring process, Eye Consultants of Atlanta may conduct background checks and drug testing. Employment offers depend on successful completion of these screenings. The company states that it complies with applicable state and federal regulations and maintains confidentiality of screening results.
