About The Position

Eye Health America partners with leading eye care practices across the Southeast, providing operational, strategic, and administrative support to help deliver exceptional patient care. Carolinas Centers for Sight, an Eye Health America affiliate, is a growing, multi-specialty ophthalmology practice seeking an ophthalmic scribe to document and summarize ocular examinations and recommendations accurately while maintaining patient flow and communicating appointment status. The scribe records the physician’s examination findings, chief-complaint additions, assessments, treatment recommendations, and—when appropriate—the rationale for clinical decisions. The role also involves observing the patient and physician during examinations and assisting when appropriate; helping patients understand instructions and providing written instructions or educational materials as needed; completing superbills, entering billing orders, or preparing checkout forms when directed; and becoming fluent in the requirements of each examination.

Requirements

At least two years of experience in a medical office; ophthalmology office experience is preferred.
Scribe certification; certified ophthalmic assistant certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

Accurately summarize and document the physician’s verbal examination findings, including examination charting, additions to the chief complaint, assessment, treatment recommendations, and appropriate justification for decisions.
Observe the patient and physician and assist during the examination when appropriate.
Monitor patients’ verbal and non-verbal communication while the physician gives instructions, and repeat information, provide written instructions, or hand out educational materials when needed.
When directed by the physician, complete the superbill, enter billing orders, and/or complete the checkout form, then direct the patient before following the physician to the next patient.
Become fluent in the exact requirements of each examination.
Maintain patient flow and communicate appointment status.
