About The Position

Learn To Be is a nonprofit that provides free one-on-one online tutoring to K–12 students from under-resourced communities. The Operations Intern helps ensure students waiting for a tutor are paired without undue delay. The intern works with and reports to the Learn To Be Operations team.

This is a virtual role requiring 15–20 hours per week on a consistent, reliable schedule arranged with the Operations team. Late afternoons and evenings are preferred because families are easier to reach then. The role is suited to someone who has used AI tools such as ChatGPT or Claude to build practical tools or workflows, is resourceful, and cares about equitable educational opportunities. Spanish-speaking ability is a plus.

Requirements

• Be a college or university student awarded Federal Work Study.
• Reside in the United States.
• Be able to work 15–20 hours every week on a reliable, predictable basis, including during midterms and finals.
• Have experience using AI tools such as ChatGPT or Claude to build something practical.
• Have clear, friendly written communication skills and be comfortable making phone calls to parents and volunteers.
• Consent to a DOJ Dru Sjodin Sex Offender Database background check.
• Have access to an internet-connected device with a working webcam.

Nice To Haves

• Ability to speak Spanish.

Responsibilities

• Track students who are waiting for tutors, beginning with students referred through partner organizations.
• Identify and address reasons students have not been paired, such as tutor availability for a particular schedule, subject, or grade, or lack of family response.
• Follow up with families and tutors by phone, email, and text to help pairings get started.
• Use ChatGPT, Claude, and similar tools to draft messages, clean spreadsheets, identify patterns, and build small tools that make the work more efficient.
• Inform the Operations team about process problems and help resolve them.
