About The Position

Wellmark is offering a Summer Internship Program designed to provide meaningful work that assists in professional development and adds value to the team. Interns will gain valuable experience in the health insurance industry, applying academic knowledge to real-world tasks. The program offers opportunities to learn from industry experts, network with peers, and gain hands-on experience. The Operations division at Wellmark, with over six hundred employees, manages critical functions such as member enrollment, benefit loading, provider credentialing, document distribution, claims processing, customer service, employee training, Operations Compliance, Operations Analytics, and Quality Assurance. The team is united in providing excellent service to members and providers.

Requirements

  • Current sophomore student studying Operations, Finance, Engineering, Business Insurance, Health Care Management, Risk Management & Insurance, Business Management, Business Analytics, or related programs.
  • Excellent research skills and profound curiosity to dig deep to find insights.
  • Strong collaboration, presentation, and organizational skills with the ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively work with business areas.
  • Ability to see a task through to completion independently and as a team member.
  • Proven problem-solving and analytical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated computer skills with Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
  • Demonstrated project leadership skills with the ability to take initiative.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in a business setting.
  • Previous experience writing and executing manual test cases.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day experiences of collaboration and partnership with various leaders and teams, focusing on small-scale deliverables, building interpersonal relationships, and exposure to cross-divisional elements of the Wellmark organization.
  • Work closely with subject matter experts to create desk-level procedures and process/system documentation into user-friendly documentation.
  • Collaborate with Operations Analytics on reporting and data analysis.
  • Take the lead on ad hoc research projects and share findings on online provider information.
  • Provide testing support by documenting traceability and findings to ensure accurate and timely outcomes.
  • Strengthen business acumen in the health care industry and contribute to a self-driven team environment.
