About The Position

Reporting to Manager - Mine, the Operational Effectiveness Specialist will be the owner of a newly developed operational effectiveness system for the Kiena Mine Complex. This role will lead the implementation, stabilization, and ongoing maintenance of the system, ensuring it is embedded into daily operating routines and delivers measurable improvements in safety, productivity, reliability, cost performance, and operational discipline. Working cross-functionally with Mine Operations, Maintenance, Mill, Technical Services, Health and Safety, Human Resources, Finance, and other site teams, the incumbent will support continuous improvement initiatives, strengthen performance management routines, and help build a sustainable culture of operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Mining Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Business, Operations Management, or a related discipline; equivalent operational experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 7 to 10 years of experience in mining, heavy industry, or a similar operational environment, with strong exposure to underground mining operations preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing, owning, or maintaining operational efficiency, operational excellence, business improvement, or performance management systems.
  • Strong continuous improvement background, including practical application of Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, root cause analysis, standard work, visual management, and structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally with operations, maintenance, technical services, safety, finance, human resources, and other support functions.
  • Strong understanding of mining operational processes, performance drivers, short-interval control, planning routines, production tracking, equipment performance, and cost management.
  • Experience developing KPIs, dashboards, action tracking systems, reporting routines, and governance processes to support operational decision-making.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, coaching, and change management skills, with the ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to translate operational data into practical insights, improvement opportunities, and sustainable actions.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage priorities, deadlines, stakeholders, and follow-up actions in a dynamic operating environment.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and data visualization skills; experience with Power BI or similar tools is considered an asset.
  • Bilingual communication skills in English and French are mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Own, implement, maintain, and continuously improve the Kiena operational effectiveness system, ensuring it is aligned with site priorities, business objectives, and operating standards.
  • Lead the rollout of the new operational system across site departments, including change management, communication, training support, adoption tracking, and sustainment planning.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to integrate the system into daily, weekly, and monthly operating routines, including performance reviews, planning meetings, accountability processes, and follow-up actions.
  • Develop, maintain, and monitor key performance indicators, dashboards, routines, and reporting tools that provide clear visibility into operational performance, risks, opportunities, and improvement progress.
  • Identify operational inefficiencies, constraints, and performance gaps through data analysis, field observations, process reviews, and engagement with frontline teams and leaders.
  • Facilitate continuous improvement initiatives using structured methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, root cause analysis, standard work, visual management, and problem-solving tools.
  • Support site leaders in building business cases, prioritizing improvement opportunities, defining expected benefits, and tracking realized value from operational effectiveness initiatives.
  • Coach supervisors, superintendents, and frontline teams on operational effectiveness practices, performance routines, continuous improvement tools, and disciplined execution.
  • Ensure system documentation, standards, workflows, action registers, governance processes, and lessons learned are maintained, accessible, and consistently applied.
  • Coordinate with departments to ensure actions, commitments, and improvement plans are followed through, escalated when required, and sustained over time.
  • Promote a culture of operational discipline, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement across the Kiena Mine Complex.
  • Prepare regular updates, presentations, and reports for site leadership on system implementation progress, performance trends, improvement pipeline status, and realized benefits.
