About The Position

The Center for Sciences at the University of Austin invites applications for Engineering faculty positions at any academic rank. Faculty teach talented, motivated students in small classes with rigorous standards. The typical annual teaching load is 18 quarter hours, equivalent to 12 semester hours or a 2/2 semester-system load. Faculty teach in their specialties at the upper-division level and may teach more broadly in related areas in lower-division courses. Faculty pursue research and creative work evaluated for intellectual significance and practical, constructive impact. This work may include traditional journal and conference publications as well as outward-facing projects with startups and larger firms. Faculty also help design and build improvements to higher education through service characterized by initiative and innovation. The Engineering program combines intensive coursework across engineering disciplines with specialized study based on student interests and a major project of 27 quarter hours. Faculty may mentor students on a variety of engineering-related projects. UATX is building an Applied Engineering Lab in Bastrop, Texas, where students conduct hands-on work designing, building, and testing complex electromechanical systems. The lab is approximately 45 minutes from the downtown Austin campus, in a growing advanced-manufacturing corridor. Appointments will be at the Assistant, Associate, or full Professor rank. The anticipated start date is Fall 2027. Part-time appointments will be considered, and interested applicants should state their preference in their cover letter. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with rank, and includes comprehensive benefits and a research stipend. Faculty positions are long-term academic appointments supported by renewable five-year contracts; UATX does not use a traditional tenure system. Applicants should submit a CV and cover letter describing their interest, relevant teaching and research experience, and alignment with the University's mission. Application review begins immediately, and applications submitted by January 4, 2027 will receive priority review. Candidates selected for further review may be asked for writing samples, references, and/or a teaching portfolio.
