The Center for Arts at the University of Austin invites applications for full- or part-time faculty positions in History, open to candidates at any academic rank. The university is especially interested in candidates specializing in medieval and early modern Great Britain and Europe; eighteenth- and nineteenth-century Great Britain and Europe; or twentieth- and twenty-first-century great power politics, including military history, international relations, and/or foreign policy. Candidates should be enthusiastic about teaching across multiple regions and centuries within a curriculum focused on recurring debates, abiding structures, and the development of Western civilization. Candidates may also teach in other areas represented in the curriculum, including literature, philosophy, theology, and art history. Applicants should have active, ambitious research agendas and be prepared to conduct research and teach undergraduates at the highest level within a liberal arts curriculum. Faculty appointments will be at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or full Professor, with an anticipated start date of Fall 2027. Part-time appointments will be considered; applicants seeking part-time work should indicate this in their cover letter. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with rank, and includes comprehensive benefits and a research stipend. Full-time Assistant Professor salaries in Arts start at $90,000. The annual teaching load is 18 quarter hours, equivalent to a 12-semester-hour or 2/2 teaching load in a semester system. These are designed as long-term academic appointments supported by renewable five-year contracts; the university does not operate under a traditional tenure system. Applicants should upload a CV and cover letter. The cover letter should describe their interest in the position, relevant teaching and research experience, and alignment with the university's mission. Review begins immediately, and applications submitted by January 4, 2027 will receive priority review. Candidates selected for further review may be asked for writing samples, references, and/or a teaching portfolio.
