About The Position

This is a student employee position for the Fall 2026, Spring 2027, and Summer II 2027 semesters at the Lafayette Campus of South Louisiana Community College. The role is within the Academic & Student Affairs department and is an Unclassified - Student type of appointment. The appointment dates are from August 17, 2026, to June 30, 2027, with a salary of $10/hour and a maximum of 25 hours per week. The position involves providing administrative and office support, excellent customer service, effective communication, and developing professional skills through diverse tasks and projects. Federal Work Study Experience Learning Outcomes include gaining knowledge of employee characteristics, understanding employment processes, developing transferable work skills, and learning practical work tenets for professional office environments.

Requirements

  • Applicant must be a current SoLAcc student, enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credit hours for the corresponding semester (Fall 2026, Spring 2027, Summer I 2027 semester).
  • Must have a completed 2026-2027 FAFSA on file with SoLAcc.
  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Passing pre-employment criminal background screen is required as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Providing outstanding service to students and other internal and external customers.
  • Providing day-to-day administrative and office support for the assigned department.
  • Communicating effectively with students and others as directed via telephone, email, and in face-to-face settings.
  • Completing a diverse set of tasks designed to develop and strengthen knowledge and skills related to employment in a professional environment.
  • Working independently within a team on special and ongoing projects.
  • Demonstrating a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
  • Ability and endurance necessary to work the hours needed to complete the job.
  • Attendance at all mandatory meetings.
  • Regular attendance.
  • Gain knowledge of the personal characteristics and behavior necessary to serve as an employee in any work environment.
  • Understand the processes involved in securing and retaining employment.
  • Develop and possess customer service and other transferrable work skills which will allow them to be an asset to any future employer.
