About The Position

The Public Works Business Operations Coordinator is a key role within the Public Works Department. This position encompasses diverse responsibilities, including streamlining workflows, coordinating cross-departmental processes, and optimizing resource allocation for improved efficiency. The role requires a strong understanding of county policies and ordinances and involves tasks such as procurement processes, asset management, data analysis, and addressing customer inquiries. This role operates with a customer-centric mindset, analyzes trends and workflows to support continuous improvement through metric analysis, and demonstrates adaptability and a positive, solution-focused mindset in a dynamic environment. The coordinator will collaborate on budget reviews and financial analysis, embrace change with a willingness to shift priorities, processes, and responsibilities as business needs evolve, and inspire and guide Public Works teams to achieve strategic goals while fostering trust, accountability, and innovation. The position requires the ability to adapt to challenges, maintain resilience, and focus on results using data-driven decision-making. Integration of economically, environmentally, and socially responsible practices into daily operations is essential, along with monitoring and reporting sustainability metrics, including tracking work orders, hours, and costs within the Asset Management system. Ethical conduct and transparency in all business dealings are paramount, promoting open dialogue with employees, customers, and suppliers to build collaborative relationships. Proficiency in current and modern technology, including Microsoft platforms and AI, is required.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a standard high school, vocational school or the equivalency, supplemented by experience, training or education which provides the desired knowledge, skills and abilities to perform required duties in the Administrative Services Division
  • Experience and knowledge of the functions pertaining to Public Works, and maintain a working knowledge of modern office procedures and equipment
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret policies, procedures, professional publications, and governmental regulations
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence
  • Possess strong oral, written, and listening skills
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers and decimals
  • Interprets a variety of technical and instructional information
  • Makes decisions which serve the county’s best interest and follows the missions and objectives of the Public Works Department
  • Possession of a valid Commonwealth of Kentucky driver’s license
  • Basic computer skills with ability to access programs such as but not limited to Microsoft Office products
  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures
  • Ability to work under limited supervision
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must maintain confidentiality when required
