About The Position

The Supreme Court of Ohio is seeking a fall Intern student to assist our Law Library. Under the supervision of the Research Services Manager, the intern will work closely with the research librarians and director on existing projects related to metadata entry, library reorganization, and answering legal and legislative reference questions. The intern will assist with the upload of content to the digital asset management system and the creation of item-level metadata and transcriptions for digital objects; assisting with planning and moving a collection of materials; research using a variety of legal sources. The intern may have the opportunity to assist with some program planning and library outreach initiatives.

Requirements

  • Current graduate student in a Library and/or Information Science program (MLS/MLIS) or public history/archives program at an accredited School of Library Science or Public History.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work within deadlines.
  • Comfortable working both independently and with staff librarians.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with archives, creating indexes or cataloging objects is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Processing metadata and adding transcriptions for a newly digitized collection.
  • Assisting with identifying additional materials for digitization.
  • Assisting with planning and moving collection materials.
  • Researching assigned topics.
  • Providing occasional reference work when assigned.
  • Learn about the Supreme Court of Ohio by observing oral arguments, observing and assisting staff with a board or commission meeting, and meeting with Supreme Court Senior Leadership Team.
  • Assist with the upload of content to the digital asset management system and the creation of item-level metadata and transcriptions for digital objects.
  • Assist with planning and moving a collection of materials.
  • Research using a variety of legal sources.
  • Assist with some program planning and library outreach initiatives.
