About The Position

Grand Forks County is seeking a creative and driven Marketing & Communications Intern to help share the story of local government in action. This internship offers a hands-on opportunity to work directly with county leadership and department heads while building real-world experience in communications, marketing, and public service. The selected candidate will play a key role in developing a social media campaign that highlights the people, services, and impact of Grand Forks County.

Requirements

• Current student at the University of North Dakota (preferred fields: Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Political Science, Public Administration, or related)
• Strong writing and communication skills
• Ability to tell compelling stories and simplify complex topics
• Familiarity with major social media platforms
• Organized, self-motivated, and comfortable engaging with professionals
• Interest in public service or local government

Responsibilities

• Meet with county department heads and staff to understand services and operations
• Conduct interviews and gather content that showcases county employees and programs
• Translate complex government services into clear, engaging messaging for the public
• Develop and execute a social media campaign featuring county departments and employees
• Create written content, graphics, and short-form videos for platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn
• Assist in managing and updating county social media accounts
• Monitor engagement metrics and suggest improvements to outreach strategies
• Support additional communications efforts as needed
