Established in 1909, University of Wisconsin-Madison’s first agricultural research station. The Spooner Agricultural Research Station is the northernmost station and specializes in Agronomy and Horticulture crop production research. This position works independently, under general supervision, providing comprehensive support to the Station Superintendent and ARS Financial Manager and supplemental support to professors, r esearchers, and s taff from the UW CALS departments to facilitate research and facility use at the Spooner Agricultural Research Station (SARS), Washburn/Barron County UW-Extension support, and remote support of the Rhinelander Agricultural Research Station. This position oversees and manages all aspects of office activities to ensure that functions of budgeting, financial reporting, and invoicing are done in an accurate and efficient manner. Furthermore, this position includes administrative duties and provides support to staff regarding payroll and human resource policies. The Rhinelander Agricultural Research Station has been a home for University potato breeding research for over 50 years. It remains a primary site for ongoing research related to potato production. Many studies mapping the basic nature of the genetics of the potato have been carried on at this facility, resulting in national and international recognition through numerous publications and the release of new and improved potato varieties including Antigo, Red Beauty, Superior, Wischip, Oneida, Rhinered, Snowden , MegaChip, Lelah, Tundra, Nicolet, Accumulator, Oneida Gold & Red Endeavor.
