About The Position

The Department of Corrections, Division of Institutions, is recruiting for an Office Assistant 2 position at Wildwood Correctional Center (WCC) in Kenai, Alaska. This position provides comprehensive clerical support to all facility staff, including the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendents, Administrative Officer II, Probation Officer, and Criminal Justice Technician. Responsibilities include maintaining strict security and confidentiality of personnel records; completing employee in-processing and out-processing; tracking vacancies; and monitoring WorkPlace Alaska daily to print, organize, and file all incoming applications. The position prepares required administrative reports such as weekly vacancy updates, weekly pass-ons, telephone and unit lists, and the Superintendent’s end-of-month report. Additional duties include conducting background checks for contractors and visitors, managing the weekly UA process, and filing results in confidential prisoner files. This position also provides front desk coverage as needed, including answering phones, greeting the public, and processing incoming visitors and guests.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or the equivalent.
  • One year of experience that includes clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.
  • Ability to operate motor vehicles (for some positions).
  • Skill in typing (for some positions).
  • Must pass a criminal history check.
  • Must be fingerprinted.

Nice To Haves

  • Clerical knowledge: filing, typing, data entry, record maintenance, shorthand, and form completion.
  • Computer skills: proficiency with computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems.
  • Knowledge of HR concepts, principles, and practices related to retirement, insurance, injury compensation, and other employee benefits programs.
