About The Position

The Department of Corrections, Division of Institutions, is recruiting for an Office Assistant 2 for the Palmer Correctional Center (PCC), located in Sutton, Alaska. Under the general supervision of Administrative Officer 2 and Administrative Assistant 2, this role reviews and processes staff payroll within Integrated Resource Information System (IRIS) on a biweekly basis. The position involves reviewing time sheets for accuracy, correcting errors, recording batch numbers, and calculating and inputting payroll hours according to bargaining union agreements. Additionally, the Office Assistant 2 advises employees and supervisors on payroll and leave issues, investigates pay problems and complaints, and resolves or forwards them for action as needed. The role also includes scheduling inmate travel upon release and coding invoices for processing.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or the equivalent.
  • One year of experience that includes clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.
  • Possess a regular driver's license and be 18 years of age or older (if required for the specific position).
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) if the position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN).
  • Must be fingerprinted and pass a criminal history check.
