About The Position

MARTIN Technologies is seeking an Occupant Safety CAE Engineer to support vehicle safety development at a customer facility in Allen Park, Michigan. The role develops occupant simulation models, evaluates crash performance, and improves safety systems from concept through production. The engineer collaborates with crash safety, design, structures, and supplier teams on next-generation vehicle architectures, including electric vehicles, and supports occupant safety delivery through all program phases to start of production. The position is hybrid, with four days onsite each week at the customer facility; onsite attendance is required from day one. The work is on the morning shift, with overtime as required. Applicants must reside in the United States and be authorized to work there. Visa sponsorship is not offered, and applicants who need current or future sponsorship will not be considered. Relocation, if needed, is at the candidate’s own expense. In-person interviews may be requested.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of occupant safety CAE experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience designing and launching new safety systems from concept to production.
  • Hands-on capability with LS-DYNA occupant simulation.
  • Strong engineering mechanics fundamentals.
  • Experience with nonlinear finite element analysis and model correlation.
  • Knowledge of global passive safety assessment programs and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to interpret simulation results and translate findings into practical design recommendations.
  • Strong analytical skills, initiative, creativity, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate within a global, cross-functional team.
  • Clear technical communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Availability to work four days onsite per week in Allen Park, Michigan, with overtime as required.
  • Must currently reside in the United States and be authorized to work in the United States; sponsorship is unavailable.

Nice To Haves

  • Occupant restraint system development and optimization.
  • Electric vehicle platform and architecture development.
  • DOE, DFSS, and engineering optimization tools.
  • Component and system-level model correlation.
  • Collaboration between occupant safety and vehicle structure teams.
  • Design robustness and standardization of CAE methods.

Responsibilities

  • Develop occupant CAE models in LS-DYNA across multiple stages of vehicle development.
  • Evaluate system-level occupant performance for relevant crash and impact configurations.
  • Collaborate with design and release engineers and suppliers to develop correlated component models and document modeling assumptions.
  • Optimize airbags, seat belts, steering columns, seats, instrument panels, and interior trim to meet occupant performance targets.
  • Coordinate with body structure teams when structural performance affects occupant protection.
  • Use DOE, Design for Six Sigma, and optimization methods to balance safety performance with cost, mass, and other design constraints.
  • Support rapid concept development and assess new design ideas through simulation.
  • Apply engineering mechanics and first-principles reasoning to investigate complex safety concerns.
  • Support failure mode avoidance, design robustness, and efficient safety design verification.
  • Develop standard work procedures for consistent model quality and reliable simulation results.
  • Participate in design reviews, present findings, and recommend design improvements.
  • Support occupant safety attribute delivery through all program phases to start of production.
