About The Position

We are seeking a qualified Obstetrics & Gynecology Physician for a Locum Tenens position in Ottumwa, IA. This role involves both outpatient and inpatient care, including clinical duties and on-call responsibilities. The coverage period is from December 27, 2026, ongoing, with a clinic schedule of Monday-Thursday 8 AM - 5 PM and Friday 8 AM - 12 PM. On-call shifts will be rotating, typically 10-14 day stretches, with a 24-hour beeper call requiring a 15-minute response time. The reason for coverage is extra volume. Malpractice insurance is provided by the vendor, and travel and lodging arrangements are to be made. The average daily patient volume in the clinic is 15-20. The physician will be responsible for OB/GYN cases, deliveries, and gynecological surgeries. The facility utilizes MediTech/Athena EMR systems and is supported by RNs, MAs, PA/NPs, and office staff.

Requirements

  • Board Certified required
  • Licensed in IA or Universal License (IMLC)
  • Active DEA required
  • BLS, ACLS, ATLS, PALS, ABLS certifications
  • EMR proficiency (MediTech, Athena)
  • FHR interpretation - NST/CST/FSE
  • Routine delivery (Vaginal, Breech, Multiple births, Abruptions)
  • Repair of 3rd & 4th degree lacerations
  • Office/minor gynecology (IUD, Cystoscopy, Colposcopy, cryosurgery, LEEP)
  • Surgical gynecology (Open, Laparoscopic diagnostic/minor only - tubal ligation, LOA's, chronal tubation)
  • Operative/major surgical gynecology (ectopic pregnancy, ovary removal, cystectomy, extensive LOA's)
  • Laser certification

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive obstetric care including deliveries, c-sections, and management of high-risk pregnancies.
  • Perform gynecologic procedures in office and surgical settings (e.g., IUD placement, colposcopy, laparoscopy).
  • Cover clinic hours Monday through Friday, seeing 15‑20 patients per day with support from NPs and nursing staff.
  • Participate in rotating call schedule (10‑14 day stretches) managing labor and delivery, emergency consults, and surgical back-up.
  • Collaborate with transferring facilities for NICU-level patients requiring Life Flight to Iowa City or Des Moines.
