About The Position

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, the Nutrition Services Production Assistant performs a full range of food preparation, cooking, baking, and packaging tasks in a high school or middle school kitchen or food service area. The employee also assists or substitutes as assigned in the supervisor’s absence. The position is for the school term, 200 days, and is scheduled for 25 hours per week from 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM. Work locations are La Costa Canyon High School in Carlsbad or Pacific Trails Middle School in San Diego. The hourly pay range is $21.28–$28.52. Benefits listed include paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, medical, dental, and life insurance, and CalPERS eligibility. Hiring is contingent on successfully completing a background check, fingerprinting, physical examination including tuberculosis screening, drug and alcohol screening, and an Oath of Allegiance. A new or promotional employee serves a probationary period of six months or 130 days of paid service, whichever is longer.

Requirements

Any combination equivalent to three years of increasingly responsible experience preparing or assisting in the preparation of food in large quantities and/or college-level coursework in nutrition, food preparation, quantity cooking, and food service sanitation methods. Coursework is credited at 24 semester or 30 quarter units for each year of experience, up to 48 semester or 60 quarter units.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Current food safety manager certification, such as ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification or another certification deemed equivalent by the District; certification must be submitted with the application.
Pass pre-employment testing and assessment demonstrating the minimum qualifications required for the position.

Responsibilities

Prepare, cook, bake, and package food in a high school or middle school kitchen or food service area.
Assist or substitute as assigned in the absence of the supervisor.
