About The Position

MedVet is seeking a collaborative, driven Nursing/ICU Veterinary Technician for its clinical team. The Nursing department provides constant supervision to patients to ensure treatment plans are carried out. The role involves assessing and prioritizing incoming patients, supporting treatment and procedures, providing nursing care to hospitalized patients, and communicating with clients and the patient care team. The technician may perform phlebotomy, place IV catheters, assist with recovery, provide client education and follow-up, monitor anesthesia and sedation, and conduct laboratory testing.

Nice To Haves

• State Registered Veterinary Technician license preferred.
• Prior veterinary experience; previous nursing or critical care experience desired.
• Proficiency in calculations, including drug calculations, constant rate infusions, and unit conversions.

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases, and gather additional information as necessary.
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize care based on assessment.
• Partner with the patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication, and nursing care concerns.
• Provide client education on home care instructions, medications and their indications and adverse reactions, and wellness updates on hospitalized patients.
• Assist the DVM with patient assessment, treatment, and procedures.
• Monitor and provide nursing care to hospitalized patients.
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures.
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing.
